Today, Collectionzz celebrates one of Willie Nelson’s masterpieces, Stardust, with a limited edition, double sided screen print by artist Matt Ryan Tobin! As Collectionzz explained, “The art is inspired by Willie’s words about the titular track, and what it meant to him personally growing up as a child during the depression days looking up to the stars, which is transcribed on the back of the poster. This print is for all the stargazers out there!”
In April 1978, Willie Nelson took a left turn by following a string of successful albums with a cover album of songs made famous by decidedly non-country musicians like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. Stardust was a legendary departure from the traditional outlaw country Willie, and America's pop troubadour put his one-of-a-kind touch on pop standards, finding common ground between outlaw country and mellow. It was the right move.
Stardust was met with high sales and near-universal positive reviews. It peaked at number 1 in Billboard’s Top Country Albums. In 1979, Nelson won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song “Georgia on My Mind”. Stardust was on the Billboard’s Country Album charts for ten years – from its release until 1988. In 1984, when it was certified triple platinum, Nelson was the highest-grossing concert act in the United States. By 1988, the album was certified quintuple platinum, and it was later inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame class of 2015.
Willie Nelson “Stardust” by Matt Ryan Tobin is a 24”x18” hand numbered screen print with a holographic sticker on back of print for authenticity. Limited to 100 pieces, this print will go on sale at 2pm ET today, Tuesday, September 14th, at iconic.collectionzz.com for $75.
