Yesterday, Mondo released this killer Godzilla ’89 Statue based on the iconic character’s appearance in the film Godzilla vs Biollante. The movie features one of Godzilla’s most iconic and memorable designs, so it was the perfect choice for Mondo’s first statue for the franchise since they acquired the Toho license. The Godzilla ’89 is a highly-detailed vinyl statue with a polystone/resin base and stands 18” tall and is 15” wide.
Crashed between Godzilla’s legs lays the Super X2. The Super X becomes a pretty important ship in the Godzilla mythos. Its debut in The Return of the Godzilla is an awesome moment in Godzilla history and continues in Godzilla vs Biollante. To pay homage to the giant plant creature Biollante, Mondo included one of its monstrous tentacles, which has been ripped off and thrown to the ground by Godzilla.
There were two versions of the Godzilla ’89 Statue released: a Regular Edition and a limited edition Mondo Exclusive Edition. Both editions include a switch-out mouth (open or closed), but the Mondo Exclusive Edition includes two extra accessories! First is a swappable arm recreating the moment in the film when Biollante stabs Godzilla’s hands with one of its tentacles. It also includes Godzilla’s famous energy blast shooting from his mouth that’s a must get for any big Godzilla fan.
This rad statue’s packaging was designed by artist Florian Bertmer, who created artwork featuring Godzilla in the middle of an epic clash with Biollante. Adding the finishing touches to Florian’s amazing art was Mike Bonanno, who added the colors and designed the rest of the packaging art.
The Godzilla ‘89 Premium Scale Statue can be pre-ordered now at MondoShop.com. The Regular Editions retails for $350, while the Limited Edition Mondo Exclusive is $375.
