The Blot was thrilled to learn that artist Mike Egan would be revisiting his popular Death Folk Pop series of paintings in 2021! As Mike explained, “As I’m getting older I’ve been reflecting back on my life and thinking about what has influenced me over the years. As a child of the 80s the one thing that keeps jumping out at me is pop culture. The toys I played with, the cartoons, video games, movies, etc. These characters have been great friends to me growing up.”
“This is why I wanted to continue my “Death Folk Pop” series in the new year. These paintings have become a way for me to say goodbye to a younger me. But also a way for me to look back at my life and remember the good times I had with friends bonding over our love for music, toys, etc.” – Mike Egan
The first two pieces in Egan’s newly ongoing Death Folk Pop series is the Marvel Comics inspired “Spider-Man Holding a Skull” and the Star Wars inspired “Death Star” featuring Darth Vader and Stormtroopers. Each painting comes signed and titled on the back and is painted with acrylic on a cradled wood panel that measures 20”x20”.
