This prop was seen in the opening sequence of the film, when The Excelsior, the 1st Federation ship to be fitted with a trans warp drive, commanded by Captain Hikaru Sulu, is heading home. The vessel is hit by a powerful shockwave, caused by the destruction of the Klingon moon, Praxis. As a result of the impact, Captain Sulu famously drops the prop teacup to the deck, where it breaks. The teacup and saucer formed part of a ‘Ship’s Dinnerware’ service, the prop used on set was found object with applied stickers.
