The Blot is a huge fan of Canadian artist Sandra Chevrier’s work. I’ve been kind of obsessed with it ever since I was first introduced to Chevrier and her amazing “Cage Paintings” on Instagram. The way she juxtaposes beautiful female faces with masks of comic book artwork is mesmerizing, and all of her subjects have such mesmerizing gazes! So when I learned Sandra had teamed up with Mighty Jaxx and C.O.A. Galerie to release a polystone resin bust of one of her Cage Paintings my jaw hit the ground! I wasn’t sure how they were going to transform Chevrier’s work into a real life 3D art sculpture, but they absolutely killed it with “La Cage où les gens pleurent”!
“La Cage où les gens pleurant” (aka The Cage where people cry) is a 12” x 9” x 7” polystone bust featuring a carved and textured mask and Chevrier’s signature engraved on the back. The figure’s comic book mask was designed as if it were ripped from a DC Comics comic book from the ‘70s or ‘80s and features Superman and Supergirl. Produced by Mighty Jaxx, this stunning art multiple will be available in four colorways sold exclusively at C.O.A. Galerie.
The Original Colored White Edition is limited to 300 pieces and will retail for $300, while the Original Colored Black Edition, Mono White Edition and Mono Black Edition are limited to 100 pieces each and will retail for $350. All four colorways of the La Cage où les gens pleurant bust will go on sale at noon EDT this Thursday, August 30th, at the C.O.A. Galerie online store.
