Ok, now this is a monumental release from Mondo! Check out Mondo’s official press release: In 1975, Steven Spielberg changed cinema and film-loving audiences forever when he gave the world its first summer blockbuster, JAWS, and nothing was ever the same again. Not only is JAWS an all-time film from an all-time filmmaker, an added feather to the hat is that it's got arguably the greatest one sheet movie poster in cinematic history.
Originally painted by the great Roger Kastel, the artwork is immediately arresting and visceral. A huge great white lunging toward the surface at an unknowing swimmer, giant maw ready to strike. Back in September 2016, we began the process of bringing the iconic artwork to life as a silkscreen poster. Working closely under Roger Kastel's supervision and approval, we enlisted the talents of several key artists and designers including Jason Edmiston on separations, Chris Billheimer on layout, and Bruce Yan on typography. Additionally, a huge shout out to Daniel Danger for helping to get the posters signed by Mr. Kastel. To learn a little more about the project and see an incredible time lapse of Jason's re-creation of the art, check out the article here.
JAWS by Roger Kastel is a 24”x36” signed and numbered screen print. Limited to 280 pieces, this beautiful recreated movie poster will retail for $150. Mondo is also releasing an art print version of the movie poster, which Mondo has titled “The Shark”. It features Roger's original artwork for the JAWS paperback novel, later adapted for the film. The Shark by Roger Kastel is a 24”x36” signed and numbered screen print. It is also limited to 280 pieces and will retail for $150. Both prints will go on sale at a random time later today, Tuesday, July 3rd, at the Mondo online store.
