Buff Monster’s newest solo art show, Melt With Me: An Exhibition of Sculpture by Buff Monster, opens in New York City! As Buff explains, “the show is a culmination of over a year of explorations in sculpture, from the smooth sexy large scale pieces to the gritty smaller concrete ones.” The main focus of the show is this extra-large version of Mister Melty (see below). He stands 24” tall, is produced in high-impact resin, fiberglass and concrete, and has been in the works for over a year now.
Mister Melty has become an icon in his own right, and the symbol of Buff’s Meltiverse. He’s confident, eternally optimistic and blissfully unaware of his certain fate. His one eye represents a singular (optimistic) worldview. At his worst, he’s one of us; at his best, he’s aspirational. Presented here in concrete and high-impact resin and fiberglass, he’ll maintain his melty state forever. We should be so lucky!
The Blot is really excited to see what Buff has in store for this character, and I love that he’s experimenting with so many different materials on one figure. Buff goes on to say that “I really wanted to explore other materials; materials that are conceptually the exact opposite of melty ice cream. As a street artist, the materials I work with the most are spray paint and concrete. So we’ve been experimenting with several kinds of concrete until we found the best one. Each sculpture has been cast by hand in my LES studio in two sizes: 5” and 7.5”. Then each one was chiseled until it looked just right.”
Melt With Me: An Exhibition of Sculpture by Buff Monster opens Thursday, February 16th, from 6-8pm. The show will be on view from February 17th-18th (12-6pm). To RSVP for the opening or see a preview of the exhibit email info@buffmonster.com.
