At Toy Fair 2014 Funko announced its newest toy line, Hikari Sofubi Vinyl Figures! Scheduled to hit stores in spring/summer 2014, Hikari is a collectible toy line inspired by Japanese sofubi. Each limited edition figure will be cast in clear soft Japanese vinyl, comes hand numbered, and will be packaged in a special edition clear tube with an LED light that can be turned on and off to accentuate your displaying of these new Hikari toys.
DC Comics' Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be the first licenses released in Funko’s new Hikari line with more properties such as Star Wars, Marvel Comics, and Ghostbusters to follow in 2014. While The Blot really likes the concept behind these figures, they are not really as limited as you would expect for sofubi. Each character will have multiple colorways, and each colorway will have run sizes of 3,500 or more. While this is definitely less than your standard Pop! release, designer toy collectors typically expect much smaller run sizes. Nevertheless, The Blot can’t wait to get my hands on that glittery blue Batman!
There will be four colorways of the Batman Hikari Japanese Vinyl Figure: Glitter Blue Batman (LE 3737), Black Glitter Batman (LE 4192), Gold Glitter Batman (LE 4191) and Metallic Blue Batman (LE 4187). There will be seven Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Hikari Japanese Vinyl Figures: Glitter Donatello (LE 3755), Glitter Raphael (LE 3738), Glitter Leonardo (LE 3756), Glitter Micahelangelo (LE 3757), Gold Glitter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (LE 4197), Metallic Raphael (LE 4193), Grey Glitter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (LE 4198).
