It’s becoming rarer and rarer for The Blot to actually like a new Obey Giant print. Sometime in the past two years everything I loved about Shepard Fairey’s work got sucked out of his art. Some would argue it’s just me, since clearly his prints continue to sell out even with large 450 piece runs. I can’t explain it, but while his message is still there, I miss his propaganda style imagery. I do, however, really like his latest release “God Save The Queen.” They way he merges the United Kingdom’s Union Jack with the American flag has a neat effect, and replacing Betsy Ross sewing the first American flag with the Queen of England is clever to say the least. Plus, let’s all be honest…the land of liberty could use some saving these days.
“God Save The Queen” by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24″ screen print, comes signed and numbered by the artist, and has a limited edition run size of 450 pieces. The print goes sale at a random time tomorrow, Thursday, September 13th, at the Obey Giant online store for $55 each.
