Every once in a while The Blot will get an email from an artist and I’m just blown away by the photos attached. That’s exactly the feeling I got when I opened an email from Australian artist Kalin Thompson. I really don’t know what to say about his custom 18 inch Mega Munny “Quartermaine” other than it’s freaking amazing! Click on the photos above and below for a much more detailed look at this awesome custom.
"Quartermaine" was created for a custom show in Brisbane, Australia entitled "Mo' Munny Mo' Problems" at Laced. This one of a kind custom figure took Kalin around 250 hours of painting alone, and that’s not even including the time spent varnishing. As Kalin explained, “when I was asked to participate in the exhibition I wanted to do something different then what the normal toy looks like. I chose to approach it with a very classical style and subject matter.” The Mega Munny is painted entirely with acrylic paints, and uses more classical oil techniques and mediums like underpainting, blending, etc. It was finished off with a clear coat varnish to give it its shine.
