Blox Vinyl Figures Wave 1 by Funko

Blox Vinyl Figures by Funko - Batman, The Joker & Gene Simmons “The Demon”

Now this is the type of release that exemplifies why The Blot loves Funko so much! They aren’t afraid to mix and match different characters from different genres into one killer toy line. Take for instance the very first wave of its all new Blox vinyl figures. In one release they have Batman and The Joker from the DC Universe, along with the General Mills Monsters and Gene Simmons of Kiss! Can’t get more random than that, can you?

Blox Vinyl Figures by Funko - General Mills Monsters (Count Chocula, Frankenberry & Boo Berry)

Blox vinyl figures stand 7” tall and feature some serious edges! Blox Wave 1 is scheduled to hit store shelves in November 2011, and will include Batman, The Joker, The Demon (Gene Simmons), Count Chocula, Frankenberry and Boo Berry. But just wait, future waves will also include characters from Ugly Dolls, Marvel, The Simpsons, Mars Attacks, Disney, Pixar and Star Wars. I for one can’t wait to see a toy line featuring a mixture of Batman, Spider-Man, Bart Simpson, Mickey Mouse and Darth Vader. Just think of the possibilities!

Glowmelon Salamander Joe Vinyl Figure by Paul Kaiju

The Glowmelon Salamander Joe Vinyl Figure by Paul Kaiju

This Saturday, July 30th, Paul Kaiju unleashes the newest colorway of his bizarre invader from another dimension, Salamander Joe! The Glowmelon Salamander Joe has a very unusual glowing texture in the dark, very alien and quite mysterious! Each figure is made with GID vinyl, features metallic green, gold, and pink spray, and includes a “Bitermite” arm weapon.

The Glowmelon Salamander Joe will retail for $90 each and will only be sold via an online form on PaulKaiju.com starting on July 30th at 12:00 PST. The sign up form for the lottery will only be available 24 hours so don’t forget to sign up (and cross your fingers)!

Cowboys & Aliens Screen Print Series by Daniel Danger, Tom Whalen & Janée Meadows

Cowboys & Aliens Screen Print by Daniel Danger

To coincide with today's world premier of Cowboys & Aliens, Mondo will be releasing its Cowboys & Aliens screen print series, which it curated with the film’s director, Jon Favreau! Favreau personally approved and art directed the series with Mondo, making for one very exciting and movie authentic release. This three print series features two of The Blot’s favorite artists (Daniel Danger and Tom Whalen) and is arguably even better than the movie itself (at least based on the film’s early reviews). While a limited number of Danger’s Cowboys & Aliens posters were originally released at San Diego Comic-Con 2011, today marks the first release of both Whalen and Janée MeadowsC&A prints.

Cowboys & Aliens Screen Print by Janée Meadows

Cowboys & Aliens Screen Print by Tom Whalen

Cowboys & Aliens by Daniel Danger is an 18"x24" hand numbered screen print with a limited edition run size of 420 and will retail for $40 each. Cowboys & Aliens by Tom Whalen is a 24"x36" hand numbered screen print with a limited edition run size of 190 and will retail for $35 each. All three prints go on sale at the Mondo online store today, Friday, July 29th, at a random time.

Ultrus Bog Vinyl Figure by Skinner

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Glow in the Dark Ultrus Bog Vinyl Figure by Skinner.jpg

After months of teases and hints, Lulubell Toys finally debuted Skinner’s new Ultrus Bog vinyl figure at San Diego Comic-Con 2011! This is the one figure The Blot was looking forward to seeing at SDCC the most, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I can’t get over all the little details on the Ultrus Bog’s sculpt. The head alone puts most figures to shame, and I love all the skulls that make up Bog’s body. And check out the awesomness that is the two custom Ultrus Bog figures Skinner sold at Comic-Con in the photo below (thanks to DrilOne for the photo!). These figures are nuts!

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Hand Painted Custom Ultrus Bog Vinyl Figures by Skinner.jpg

Standing a massive 10” tall, the Bog has five points of articulation and retails for a reasonable $85 (considering the size and details of this figure). The San Diego Comic-Con glow in the dark colorway seen above in the first photo is now sold out, but keep your eyes peeled on Lulubell’s online store for a second colorway sometime soon.

Johnny Cupcakes Big Kid Vinyl Figure Teaser Images

Johnny Cupcakes Big Kid Vinyl Figure and Packaging Teaser Image

For months The Blot’s been anxiously awaiting an update on Johnny Cupcakes first vinyl figure of his company’s mascot, the Big Kid. News has been very sparse since JC first shared pics of the prototype for this figure way back in November, but then out of nowhere he dropped these teaser images on the Johnny Cupcakes Tumblr page!!!

Johnny Cupcakes Big Kid Vinyl Figure Teaser Image

The Big Kid vinyl figure actually looks pretty true to Johnny’s 2D drawings of the character, and I can’t wait to see what kind of crazy colorways they end up producing. From the looks of the pictures above, it appears the first official release of the Big Kid will be staying pretty true to his original look. Might we be seeing a black and white colorway with red rosy cheeks? Only time will tell!

DCnU Justice League Action Figures by DC Direct - SDCC 2011

The New Justice League of America Action Figures by DC Direct - Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman & The Flash

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that DC Comics has made the decision to end all of its books, reboot/relaunch its entire universe, and give every single character some sort of makeover. While I think the idea itself is solid (a last ditch effort to bring in new comic book readers), I hate most of the new looks. Adding random lines and turning costumes into armor is so 1990s. But, DC has definitely achieved its goal of garnering its reboot loads of attention from the mainstream media. What most toy fans have wondered since the big relaunch/reboot is how will this affect the toy lines of Mattel and DC Direct?

To be quite honest, we still don’t really know that much. Mattel announced a Flashpoint Action Force tie-in at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 and that was really about it (pretty disappointing if you ask me). DC Direct wasn’t much better, but at least they debuted the six DC new Universe (“DCnU”) Justice League action figures you see above: Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman and The Flash.

What you see is pretty much what you get when it comes to the new uniforms, but there was one glaring omission from the set of action figures! You see the new core of the DCnU Justice League are the six characters seen above and Cyborg. What’s even more shocking is that one of DC’s stated goals is to bring diversity to the DC Universe and yet when DC debuts their very first line of action figures based on their universe they leave out the team’s sole minority member. Seems like a PR disaster to me! I’ll withhold final judgment until I see these figures in person, but don’t expect me to be running out and collecting the series based on this first look.

The Amazing Spider-Man Teaser Movie Poster

The Amazing Spider-Man Theatrical One Sheet Teaser Movie Poster

For some reason this was a really weak year for movies at San Diego Comic-Con. Just about the only true hype surrounded the entertaining panel for Sony’s upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. Coming out of that panel is this pretty cool teaser one sheet movie poster for the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield. My only wish is that it wasn’t being released in 3D…I can honestly say I’d be happy if I never had to watch another poorly made 3D movie the rest of my days.

The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to premier in theaters on July 3, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises debuted last week and boy does it look good! If you’re new to The Blot Says… then let me just warn you now, expect lots of coverage of Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film. Nolan’s first two Batman movies are two of my all time favorites, and I’m seriously geeked up for this final installment. Heck, Nolan even makes Bane look badass (at least in a 2 second spot). If only DC could get some other entertaining films actually made.

The Dark Knight Rises is set to premiere in theaters worldwide on July 20, 2012 (the day after my birthday!).

Threadless Marvel x Looney Tunes Wolverine T-Shirt “Old, Old Friend”

To be quite honest, The Blot is way behind on his blogging. Between moving this summer and San Diego Comic-Con coverage a lot of really cool things have been ignored. One of those was this awesome Looney Tunes x Marvel t-shirt “Old, Old Friend” featuring everyone's favorite X-Man Wolverine in front of the Looney Tunes’ classic opening title. The minute I saw this design it instantly became my all time favorite Threadless t-shirt. I love its retro feel and simplistic design. It’s currently sold out, but I’ve got a feeling we’ll see it reprinted sometime very soon!

The Avengers Concept Art “Avengers Assembled” Character Movie Posters

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 The Avengers Concept Art Character Movie Posters Banner - Avengers Assembled

One of The Blot’s favorite things to come out of San Diego Comic-Con this year are these concept art character movie posters for next year’s The Avengers! For the past 4 years Marvel has been building up to The Avengers, and from the looks of things they might just pull it off. Each poster features a different star/member of The Avengers and when combined create a beautiful banner.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 The Avengers Concept Art Avengers Assembled Character Movie Posters Banner - Chris Evans as Captain America

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 The Avengers Concept Art Avengers Assembled Character Movie Posters Banner - Chris Hemsworth as Thor

These posters also mark the first time we see what the Hulk will officially look like in The Avengers and what, if any, costume Hawkeye will wear. The Blot’s also really excited to see the inclusion of How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill in the SHIELD poster! I guess this mean she’ll play a pretty significant role in the film, which is definitely a good thing!

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Freddy Pop! Funko Vinyl Figures

Thank god The Blot is not a completist because there is no way I could have get my hands on all of these San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusive Pop! Funko vinyl figures. If you’re not familiar with Freddy, he’s Funko’s official mascot and the star of Funko’s newest line of Pop! vinyl figures. What’s cool about this release is that every Pop! Funko figure is Freddy dressed up as a different character, including Superman, Flavor Flav, Count Chocula, Frankenberry, Freddy Krueger, The Ramones and Buzz Lightyear.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Freddy Pop! Funko Vinyl Figures

While every SDCC 2011 Exclusive Freddy Pop! Funko vinyl figure is limited edition, Funko also threw in some ultra rare chase figures for fans to hunt down! These include metallic variants and glow in the dark chases of most of the Freddy Pop! vinyl figures.

Captain America: The First Avenger Final One Sheet Movie Posters

Captain America: The First Avenger Final One Sheet Movie Poster

Early yesterday morning hundreds of people at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 got a special sneak preview of Captain America: the First Avenger and you know what? They really liked it! I know this exactly the type of audience the film was produced for, but if they had hated it the film would have been D.O.A. As it is now, it seems like generally audiences like it and it’s holding strong on Rotten Tomatoes with a 71% Tomatometer score. Can’t ask for more than that!

Captain America: The First Avenger Final One Sheet Movie Poster

In case you’re still on the fence about seeing Captain America, don’t look at the film’s final theatrical one sheet movie posters shown here. While the first poster is ok, the second one leaves must to be desired. Whoever photoshopped Chris Evans’ head on that Captain America body needs to go back to school. Why they wouldn’t have just used his original masked head is beyond me. It’s not like Chris Evans is a draw for this movie. The draw is Marvel’s Captain America, just like all of their other super hero films.

Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones, is scheduled to debut in theaters on July 22, 2011.

SDCC 2011 Exclusive Slimer Meathead Resin Figure by Motorbot

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Slimer Meathead Resin Figure by Motorbot

A tribute to the popular Ghostbusters ghoul of the same name, the Slimer Meathead features translucent green resin, a hand painted mouth and a yellow doll eye. Each San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Slimer Meathead retails for $15, comes bagged with a header card and can be purchased here until Sunday, July 24, 2011!

Captain America: The First Avenger One Sheet Movie Poster

Captain America: The First Avenger One Sheet Movie Poster

We’re officially two days away from the world premiere of Captain America: The First Avenger and I have to admit, I’m actually pretty excited for it. There was a time when The Blot had extremely low expectations for this film but that all changed over the past 2 months. What can I say, Marvel has really won me over with the film’s incredible trailers. I am still a little worried about the fact that Captain America stars Chris Evans (he’s proven to be the kiss of death for comic book adaptations ala Fantastic Four, Scott Pilgrim and The Losers), but I’m willing to give him a pass since I actually enjoyed all three of those movies.

Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones, is scheduled to debut in theaters on July 22, 2011.

The Avengers Teaser Movie Poster - SDCC 2011

The Avengers Teaser One Sheet Movie Poster

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 has officially begun and the leaks are already hitting the internet. Take, for example, the first one sheet movie poster for 2012’s The Avengers seen above. What is sure to be Marvel’s next summer blockbuster, The Avengers is going to be huge! The Blot can just feel it. How can you go wrong with a movie directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk).

The Avengers is scheduled to premiere in theaters on Friday, May 4, 2012.

Watch the video and examine the photo for yourself, and let me know your guesses!
