It looks like Previews let the cat out of the bag on this one! Capcom's Street Fighter, now in its umpteenth iteration with over 29 million copies sold worldwide, teams up with Kidrobot to take you back to the arcade with the characters who started it all, including Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, Blanka, Guile and E. Honda! This is one licensed series The Blot definitely did not see coming, and I don’t know how I feel about it.
On the one hand, I think stylized vinyl figures of these iconic "street fighters" could be really cool. I grew up with these characters, and Street Fighter 2 might be my favorite arcade game of all time! But the truth is these blind box figures look uninspired and bland. Kidrobot’s first couple of licensed mini-series (Simpsons, Futurama) were exciting and unique, but now with Street Fighter and South Park coming up it just feels like more of the same…almost as if the designer toy company is just moving through the motions. While the heads of these figures are ok, the bodies are totally bland. People love Kidrobot because of the art and the way the company used to think outside of the box. Where is the creativity in this series?
Street Fighter x Kidrobot Mini Figure Series 1 includes all 12 of the video game’s original characters, including a psycho-powered chase. Expect this mini figure series to drop on July 27, 2001 and retail for $9.95 per blind box.
