Jermaine Rogers, one of The Blot’s favorite artists, had three awesome prototypes on display at San Diego Comic Con 2009. The first two were red and blue prototypes of an upcoming resin release of Rogers’ popular character Dero, entitled Believe. The Believe Dero resin figures looked incredible in person, and I couldn’t get over how big they were (around 8-10 inches in height). Jermaine let me hold one, and its craftsmanship was remarkable.
Also on display was a very raw Veil: Specimen 129 resin prototype that is currently in development. It had something very funky looking in the middle of it (like a piece of coral), but what I really liked about the head is that it had a magnet at the bottom of it. As Jermaine explained it, the plan is to have a magnet placed at the top of the figure’s neck as well, so that the two pieces can latch together magnetically. It will give the resin figure some articulation, so that you will be able to rotate the figure's head while still having it attached to its resin body. How cool is that!?!
Also on display was a pair of Jermaine Rogers x Vans sneakers. They looked pretty sick, so I had to take a pick. Not sure of the drop date on these kicks, but check out your local Vans store to reserve a pair!

SDCC 09 - Upcoming Tequila 2.0 Colorways from Muttpop
At San Diego Comic Con 2009, Muttpop unveiled the next two colorways of everyone’s favorite Lucha Libre, Tequila! As you may remember, Tequila was rereleased earlier this year with a slightly updated look and now we know what the next two colorways of Tequila 2.0 will be: a Kozik Tequila 2.0 and an all green Radioactive Tequila 2.0 (along with the variant Incredible Radioactive Tequila which will sport purple pants).
The Blot’s not exactly sure about the release dates on these figures, but everyone and their mother is going to want one of these Kozik Tequila 2.0s. And my understanding of things is that we’re going to see the release of the Incredible Radioactive Tequila sometime prior to the Radioactive Tequila’s release. I can’t wait to get my hands on this Incredible Hulk inspired figure!

DC Direct - Blackest Night Series 3 & 4 Action Figures
DC Direct is coming on strong with its Blackest Night tie-ins, and their 6 inch action figures are some of the best DC Comics figures they've made to date. Just check out the crazy details on the Black Lantern Firestorm figure below!
Blackest Night Series 3, which will hit stores in March 2010, includes Black Lantern Aquaman, Larfleeze the Orange Lantern with Glomulus, Green Lantern Arisa and Star Sapphire (not pictured). Blackest Night Series 4 will hit stores in April 2010 and includes Black Hand, Black Lantern Firestorm, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and Wonder Woman (not pictures).

SDCC 09 - DC Direct Blammoids! Series 1, 2, 3 & 4
One exciting bit of information to come out of San Diego Comic Con 2009 is that DC Direct already has plans to release a third and fourth series of its Blammoids! vinyl figures, even before Series 1 and 2 have hit store shelves. DC Comics’ toy division has really outdone themselves with Blammoids! Series 3 and 4, which includes such fan favorites as Cyborg, Catwoman, Hawkman and the Martian Manhunter.
I am especially pleased to see classic versions of Batman and Robin included in Blammoids! Series 3 and a second tier character like The Demon in Series 4. Who were you surprised to see included in DC Direct’s Blammoids! series? I’d have to go with Wildcat on this one.

SDCC 09 - Lost Memorabilia Auction
Coming in 2010, ABC and Lost, in conjunction with Profiles In History, will be launching Lost: The Auction to commemorate the popular show’s final season. The Blot’s not sure when the auction is actually scheduled for, but according to the Profiles In History representatives at San Diego Comic Con, it won’t take place until after the cast and crew conclude the filming of Lost Season 6. Why would I know all this? Because Profiles In History was at SDCC 2009 with many of the props scheduled to be put on sale in 2010.
What’s really cool about this sure to be highly successful auction is that pretty much every significant prop and article of clothing from Lost’s six seasons will be up for grabs, including Kate’s toy plane, Locke’s compass, Mr. Echo’s walking stick and tons of Dharma Initiative food.
It’s just too bad I am sure almost everything will sell for way too much money. The auction can’t take place until after filming has concluded since many of the props are needed for Season 6, but here’s a sneak peek of what will eventually be up for sale. It's pretty freaking cool, huh?

SDCC 09 - Burn Notice and Psych Panel Freebies
There were two panels The Blot HAD to attend the Thursday of Comic Con, and thankfully we arrived in San Diego just in time to see both! Over the past 2-3 years I’ve become obsessed with the USA Network’s original programming, and by far my two favorite shows on USA are Burn Notice and Psych. So when I heard both would be at Comic Con I got really excited, especially when it was announced that the legendary Bruce Campbell and Corbin Bernsen would be there.
Both panels were awesome, but what really got everyone in Ballroom 20 excited was the free shwag both shows gave out to the fans in attendance. I had no idea how much of SDCC was dedicated to freebies, but everywhere I looked there was someone screaming for usually worthless free stuff. It’s like everyone, and I do mean everyone, is after free shwag at San Diego Comic Con. I guess it’s all part of the SDCC experience, and some of the best shwag I got this past weekend came from the Burn Notice and Psych Panels. First off, everyone at the Burn Notice panel got the awesome San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Michael Westen yellow “Get Burned” t-shirt seen above.
But where we really racked up was the Psych panel which gave out SDCC 2009 exclusive Psych comic books, green Psych Magic 8 Balls (with official Shawn Spencer sayings), and Psych “fake psychic, real detectives” t-shirts. I’m not sure what I was more surprised about, that both t-shirts were printed on expensive American Apparel brand shirts, or that I saw the very same Psych tee on sale at the Hard Rock Hotel for $22!
Also making its debut at Comic Con 2009 was the Psych Shawn and Gus Talking Bobblehead Set. They did not have any of these cool bobbleheads for sale or to give away, but they did bring a set to show off to the crowd. What's great is that both bobbleheads actually look like James Roday and Dule Hill, the actors who portray Shawn and Gus on Psych. Each Psych talking bobblehead says 7 unique sayings, and the set retails for $35. You can pre-order the Psych Shawn and Gus Talking Bobblehead Set here.

SDCC 09 - Muttpop’s Tcho! Ohm Signing
One of the highlights of The Blot’s time spent at San Diego Comic Con 2009 was getting a Puro Tcho! figure (produced by Muttpop) doodled on by French artist Ohm. I ended up deciding to purchase a Malika figure at DKE’s SDCC booth, and turned it over to the French cartoonist. Handing an artist a blank figure like that is always super exciting, because you never know what it is going to look like when you get it back. This is especially true with Ohm, since I had never seen any of his custom figures before. But, he definitely didn’t disappoint!
As you can tell from the picture above, Ohm killed cute, little Malika and turned her into a very cool looking skeleton. If you want to see more of Ohm’s 2009 San Diego Comic Con creations, check out this Muttpop.com blog post.

SDCC 09 - Hellboy, Universal Monsters & Horror Movie Mez-Itz Vinyl Figures
One of my favorite purchases from San Diego Comic Con 2009 is Mezco Toys’ SDCC exclusive Comic Book Edition Hellboy Mez-Itz. I now that I have seen one up close, I can honestly say these 6 inch figures are extremely detailed and well made, especially when compared to other toy lines of the same ilk. I was therefore excited to learn at Comic Con that Mezco will continue to expand its line of Hellboy Mez-Itz figures with the previously announced Abe Sapien Mez-Itz figure along with a Johann Krauss figure and multiple variant Hellboy figures.
Not only that, but Mezco will be releasing a line of “Fear” themed figures that will include Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorheers, A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger, and Halloween II’s Michael Myers. Mezco’s Fear Mez-Itz will be hitting stores in November 2009.
But they aren’t stopping there. Mezco plans to continue to expand its line of 6” Mez-Itz figures by releasing a “Monsters” line, which will include Dracula, Frankenstein and two different Zombie colorways. These newly redesigned Mez-Itz figures look great, and should be a welcomed addition to everyone’s action figure and designer vinyl collections.
Best of all, Mezco is actively promoting its new vinyl figure as a great platform for artists to customize. The company had a ton of really impressive looking custom Mez-Itz figures on display at SDCC 2009, including the two Masters of the Universe inspired figures below. How great do these hand painted, custom He-Man and Skeletor Mez-Itz figures look!?!

SDCC 09 - MOTU Wun-Dar the Savage He-Man Action Figure
The Blot’s not a die hard Masters of the Universe fan anymore, but I thought this figure looked pretty neat. Evidently Wun-Dar the Savage He-Man action figure is a bonus figure available only to those collectors who join Matty Collector’s Club Eternia for 2010. If you’re already planning to collect the entire series of figures, how can you pass up this special offer? Especially since Wun-Dar comes with the greatest accessory ever, a freaking loaf of bread!
Wun-Dar kinda looks like a custom I might of made as a kid, taking a He-Man body and giving him Zodac’s accessories. But it is cool Mattel has chosen to make him anyway and given him such great weapons like a power sword and bread. On a side note, how cool does the Moss Man figure next to Wun-Dar look? I used to love that action figure as a kid.
For those wanting more information on Club Eternia, click here. Basically it is the official home of the Masters of the Universe toy line, where membership guarantees you all of your favorite MOTU figures. By purchasing a membership to the 2010 Club Eternia you'll receive all 12 of the monthly MOTU figures released during the year, plus a club-exclusive Wun-Dar figure and special bonus map of Eternia. The total Subscription cost is $260 (12 figures at $20 each = $240, plus $20 membership fee).

SDCC 09 - Mattel AttiTUBES
The Blot is pleased to bring you a first look at Mattel’s potential new line of designer vinyl figures entitled AttiTUBES, which premiered at San Diego Comic Con 2009. It’s weird, as Hasbro moves more and more away from their line of Mighty Muggs vinyl figures, it looks like every other toy company is trying to get in on the designer toy craze. To be honest, I was shocked it took Mattel this long to introduce a figure like this.
No word on if Mattel is even going to produce these AttiTUBES prototypes, but they are cool to look at. The three figures on the left (Mer-Man, Orko and Webstor) come from the world of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, but I have no idea who the two characters on the right are. One looks to be an astronaut, while the other is a generic looking scientist. You can be sure I’ll be scouring the internet to find out more information on these cute little quirky vinyl figures.

SDCC 09 - Marvel Mighty Muggs Are Back!
The only Mighty Muggs on display at Hasbro’s San Diego Comic Con 2009 were the soon to be relaunched Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs toy line. According to the display there are at least three Waves planned to come out this year!
What most fans will really be excited about finally seeing is the debut of the highly anticipated Deadpool Mighty Mugg! Along with Deadpool and a slew of previously announced figures, Hasbro will also be producing Mighty Mugg versions of Juggernaut, War Machine and what looks like a 1st Appearance Wolverine.
The Blot is pretty excited to finally have firm confirmation that at least one line of Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs figures will continue. Here’s hoping to more Mighty Muggs news in the near future!

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - America’s Rust Belt
Tonight’s episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations is going to be killer! How do I know this you might be wondering? Because Tony is bringing his good friend and trusty sidekick Zamir along for his ride through the heart and soul of America’s rust belt, with stops in Baltimore, Detroit and Buffalo.
In Baltimore, Tony and Zamir enjoy an outdoor meal of fresh fish at The Roost and then Tony spends some time with ‘Snoop,’ a local legend who gives him a tour of her old neighborhood in East Baltimore and takes Tony to enjoy a mélange of delicious seafood at Mo’s. In Detroit, Tony and Zamir meet up with some factory workers and music industry legends for city chicken, soul food and a much-needed drink. After enjoying a donut breakfast at Family Donut Shop, Tony is introduced to John, a laid-off steel worker who takes Tony for a meal at Polonia, a restaurant in the Polish section of town.
At Tony and Zamir’s final stop, Buffalo, they meet up with FANatic contestant Nelson Starr. The runner-up of the Anothony Bourdain: No Reservations FANatic Contest introduces Tony to his hometown of Buffalo, taking him to dinner at Ulrich’s and Schwabl’s, home of the ‘beef on weck’ sandwich, a Buffalo institution and one of Nelson’s favorites. After visiting the misunderstood Rust Belt, Tony sees that there really is more than meets the eye in these American cities. It’s not just home to auto factories and cold gray weather; it’s full of kind people and delicious food, too.
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations airs Monday nights at 10/9c on the Travel Channel.

The Blot Heads To SDCC 2009
As you read this The Blot will be flying to San Diego for Comic-Con 2009. I hope to be blogging sporadically (mostly at night) over the next four days, but plan to be tweeting throughout my stay in San Diego. So, if you want to know what I’m doing, seeing and experiencing throughout my time at SDCC head over to Twitter.com/TheBlotSays. I’ve also gone ahead and added a Twitter widget to the top of The Blot Says… so that my latest tweets will always be at the top of the site. If you want constant updates and follow The Blot Says…’s RSS feed, I recommend stopping by the actual site to find out the latest!
Thanks again for reading The Blot Says… and be sure to come by the site at night over the next four days to check out what I hope will be some very cool pictures. Ok I've been totally slacking in the blogging department, sorry! Between all the goings on at the convention and the extra curricular activities around San Diego's Gaslamp District, I've been way too tired to blog at night. I haven't even gone through all my pics yet. But have no fear, I'll be sure to post a ton next week...
P.S. – If for some reason the Twitter widget above is not working, try refreshing your browser. If that doesn’t work, please shoot me an e-mail and let me know!

Koalataur the Outkast Custom Vinyl Figure by Huck Gee
Meet Koalataur the Outkast, Huck Gee’s latest hand painted, custom Munny creation. Before you go jumping to the obvious conclusion, Koalataur does not actually have any relation to a Koala. He was born a Liontaur (a.k.a. a wemic, urmahlullu, lion-man), but due to the strange coloration of his fur was labeled an outcast at an early age and banished from his tribe.
Koalataur, being one of the nicer names he was called, stuck, and his legend was born. Stalked for his one of a kind pelt, he is constantly on the move, alone in a land of mistrust, traveling the jungles, rooting for answers to his lonely, confused world.
The Koalataur the Outkast hand crafted vinyl figure goes on sale this Friday, July 24th, at Noon PDT. Each figure is signed, numbered and comes with all of the accessories show above. Huck has created 10 Koalataur the Outkast figures, and will be selling them on his eBay store for $800 each.

Iron Man 2 - First Look at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow
This week in Entertainment Weekly’s annual San Diego Comic-Con issue the weekly pop culture magazine unveiled the world’s first look at Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. the Black Widow from Iron Man 2. (link) While I prefer the character’s look from the 80’s (short hair and grey jumpsuit), I think the film has done a fantastic job transforming Johansson into the famed Soviet spy. While they didn’t get the hair exactly right, at least they included Black Widow’s trademark wrist-thingies.
Filming of Iron Man 2 wrapped on Saturday, but fans will have to wait until May 7, 2010 to see the Marvel Comics sequel in theaters. (link) IM2 will once again be directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle (taking over the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes originated by Terrence Howard), along with Johansson and Mickey Rourke (as Whiplash).

Torchwood: Children of Earth Premieres Tonight
The Blot is unbelievably excited for the North American premiere of Torchwood Season Three tonight on BBC America! Torchwood: Children of Earth (a.k.a. Torchwood Season 3) is a five night miniseries event that starts tonight, Monday, July 20th and continues with a new episode every night for the rest of this week. Torchwood has consistently been one of my favorite shows since it debuted in 2006, and it has taken a lot of willpower to not read any spoilers or reviews of Children of Earth since it aired the week of July 6th in Great Britain.
I have no idea why the BBC decided to shrink such a popular show’s season down to just five episodes, but I am glad to know the show continues to bring in huge ratings and has graduated over the years from BBC Three to BBC Two and now airs on the more prominent BBC One channel. If you’ve never watched Torchwood before I highly recommend renting the DVD box sets, especially if you’re a fan of Doctor Who (the show Torchwood spun-off from).
Torchwood: Children of Earth airs every night this week (July 20-24) on BBC America at 9/8c. Each episode of this five part mini-series is an hour and fifteen minutes long and is then followed by a 15 minute “Behind the Scenes” show that looks at the making of each episode, so be sure to set your DVRs accordingly!

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Australia
No Reservations Season 5 continues with Tony traveling down under for a tour of Australia. Bourdain spends the bulk of his trip in Australia’s second most populated city Melbourne. Known as Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne has the second largest Asian population in Australia, which includes the largest Vietnamese, Indian and Sri Lankan communities in the country. Melbourne is a melting pot of cultures and Tony wants to discover what makes the city so special.
While in Australia Tony meets up with Paul Wilson, a British chef living in Australia, who gives Tony a tour of Queen Victoria Market, which is filled with tons of fresh produce, fish and meat. The two chefs then head to Wilson’s restaurant, Half Moon, for a delicious meal of mouthwatering seafood. You can learn more about Chef Paul Wilson’s restaurant Half Moon by watching the clip below from tonight’s episode of No Reservations: Australia.
While in Melbourne Tony also tries playing the city’s favorite sport, trugo, and then ventures to Sydney Street, a bustling shopping area filled with immigrant restaurants and markets. Tony then heads to the Royal Mall, which is a culinary wonderland in a tiny, countryside farming town outside of Melbourne where he samples incredibly fresh calamari, kingfish and pigeon. Bourdain then wraps up his trip by attending a traditional Australian barbi where he feasts on shrimp, the highest quality wagyu beef and succulent lamb. Sounds pretty good doesn’t it?
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations airs Mondays at 10/9c on the Travel Channel.

Applehead Factory - SDCC 09 Exclusive Teddy Scares Messenger of Mayhem Set
This year’s San Diego Comic Con exclusive from Applehead Factory is the Messenger of Mayhem set, a tie in with their line of adorably terrifying teddy bears known as Teddy Scares. What’s cool about the Messenger of Mayhem limited edition set is that it is actually five different SDCC 2009 exclusives in one: a pink screen-printed messenger bag, a custom sketchbook/journal, a custom SDCC 09 patch, a blood pen, and a Teddy Scares pin.
I know Teddy Scares has a pretty loyal following, so I am sure the Messenger of Mayhem messenger bag will be a huge hit at Comic Con. For those of you interested in purchasing this five piece set act fast, because only 100 were created. The Messenger of Mayhem messenger bag set can be yours for just $30 at the Applehead Factory SDCC booth #4923.

SDCC 09 Exclusive Kidrobot Dunny T-Shirt & Surprise Free Giveaway
How cool is this announcement!?!
While this is definitely exciting news, I have a feeling all of the t-shirts and 6” Golden Ticket Toofly FatCaps will be gone by the time I get to Comic Con on Thursday afternoon. But it does make me wonder what other rare figures and Golden Ticket items Kidrobot has stored away in a warehouse somewhere…especially with the news of the Huck Gee GT 3” Dunny giveaway at the KR Dallas grand opening, but more on that later (link).
Excitement’s running high for this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and with so much to see and do, we imagine you’re having a pretty hard time planning your itinerary. SLAPt - Transformers “Robots In Disguise Logo” T-Shirt
What’s so great about this Transformer t-shirt from SLAPt is that it combines two very different pop culture icons, the Transformers Autobot logo and the mustache! The “Robots In Disguise Logo” tee turns the classic Transformers’ catchphrase “Robots in Disguise” on its head by making it literal. Now the Autobot’s logo really is “in disguise” by wearing a fake mustache. And as we all know, the one sure fire way to make something even cooler than it already is is to add a mustache to it!
The Transformers themed t-shirt “Robots In Disguise Logo” t-shirt can be purchased here at the SLAPt online store and sells for $15 each.

Super7’s SDCC 09 Exclusive Vinyl Figures
The Blot was shocked when I realized yesterday that I had never blogged about one of my favorite designer toy companies, Super7. Now as readers of The Blot Says… you could probably figure out that I’m not that into kaiju vinyl and its U.S. equivalent, but I’ve always liked many of Super7’s soft vinyl creations (especially its Hooded Zombie figure). With that being said, I was still a little surprised to realize just how much of this year’s Super7 San Diego Comic Con exclusives I wanted to add to my collection. There are too many exclusives to mention here, but if you want to see them all head over to Super7’s website dedicated solely to its San Diego Comic Con 2009 exclusives.
The one exclusive everyone seems to be talking about is Big Sal by Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters. My favorite part about Big Sal is the fact that he is cast in clear blue vinyl, but the $25 price tag is pretty nice too. This little guy is destined to sell out fast due to Olivas and Peters’ huge fan base, so be sure to show up to their signing scheduled for Thursday at 3pm at the Super7 SDCC booth #4729 very early.
The Super7 SDCC09 exclusive I’m looking forward to the most is the Monster Family 3-pack, which includes unpainted, white figures of Steven the Bat, Holis and Rose Vampire. What’s really great about this exclusive 3-pack is that it is only being released on Saturday when each of the figures’ creators (Bwana Spoons, Le Merde and Josh Herbolsheimer respectively) will be on hand to sign and doodle away on these blank canvases. The Rose Vampire figure looks killer and I really like the new Steven the Bat mold. These three blank figures will only be sold as set for the ridiculously low price of $50 during the Monster Family signing at noon on Saturday, July 25th at the Super7 booth.
There are a slew of other really cool figures, like L’amour Supreme’s Jade Mongolion (available all four days for $65 each) and Itokin Park’s Red Devil Lucha Bear (available Friday at noon for $65 each), so head over to the Super7 San Diego Comic Con 2009 website now to check them out.
Also note that Super7 has scheduled most of their artists for signings at their SDCC 09 booth #4729, so collectors will definitely want to make a point of stopping by the Super7 booth at least once a day.
