Kidrobot 16 - Kidpunk Vinyl Figure

Kidrobot is kicking off the New Year with a bang by releasing its newest Kidrobot mascot vinyl figure the very first week of 2009. Kidrobot 16 - Kidpunk is the vinyl toy company’s way of paying homage to the Kidrobot icon’s punk rock roots and will be released in 3 different colorways, each figure representing a different year in punk rock’s evolution.

Each Kidrobot 16 figure, Kidpunk 1977 Edition, Kidpunk 1980 Edition and Kidpunk 1984 Edition, rocks its favorite band tee and vinyl record from that year. Each of these awesome 8 inch Kidpunk vinyl figures comes with its ears pierced, its Mohawk high and can be yours for $50 on January 8, 2009. Thankfully, Kidrobot 16 will not be blind boxed. So whether you want to collect all three Kidpunk Editions or just the one representing your favorite year, you will know exactly which colorway you are purchasing beforehand.

The Blot loves these figures, but why is Kidrobot releasing three new Kidrobot 16 mascot figures so closely to Kidrobot 15’s release last October? Andrew Bell’s Kidrobot 15 - Kidreaper figure was sick, and yet it still hasn’t sold out. The fact that Kidrobot 16 has three different versions each retailing for $50 combined with these bad economic times seems like a recipe for disaster.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the idea behind these figures’ designs is awesome and their quality is impeccable. I just think it’s a lot to ask of collectors to spend $50 just a few months ago on Kidrobot 15 and then turn around three months later and ask them to spend $150 in order to get all three variations of Kidrobot 16.
