What is it with Hollywood and remaking or “re-imagining” old movies and television shows!?! You’d think that there were no creative writers left in this world. For every successful The Office or The Departed there are a million bombs like Coupling, Bionic Women, Bewitched and The Stepford Wives. And now here we go with Conan.
I would much rather have a faithful squeal 20 years later, like with recent movies Rocky, Rambo and Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, than a remake any day. Heck I’m even ok with these new franchises that are prequels and start before the original movies, like with recent films Batman Begins and the latest James Bond flick, Casino Royale.
But what I can’t stand is scrapping everything that came before, especially with a franchise that was successful and entertaining. Couldn’t they have just waited for the Governator to leave office and make the long gestating King Conan film? Instead, we now get a new version of Conan, which could never be better than the original films but is supposed to be more faithful to the original books by Robert E. Howard.
