How I Met Your Mother vs. The Big Bang Theory Update

Here’s a quick follow up to last week’s How I Met Your Mother vs. The Big Bang Theory debate. CBS announced today that HIMYM and The Big Bang Theory will be switching time periods. (link) Starting Monday, March 17th The Big Bang Theory will now be coming on at 8/7 central and HIMYM will be coming on at 8:30/7:30 central.

How I Met Your Mother
This is actually great news in that CBS will now be able to see if The Big Bang Theory is actually more popular than How I Met Your Mother or if it’s “the time slot that’s dictating [the] slight difference in the Nielsen numbers.” (link) Right now the ratings favor The Big Bang Theory, which is averaging 8.36 million viewers, by a slight margin while How I Met Your Mother averages 8.02 million viewers.

Barney and Robin
I tend to think the slight increase in viewers for The Big Bang Theory is due to it airing before the highly rated Two and a Half Men, with viewers tuning in early so as not to miss their favorite comedy. Thankfully CBS will be testing this theory of mine come March and we will finally see which Monday night comedy will reign supreme. Or, will at least come in second on CBS to Two and a Half Men.
