Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series #20 - The Original Star Wars Trilogy Set by Tyler Stout
This is it, the final release of the Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series! These three movie posters for the original Star Wars trilogy by Tyler Stout are so beautiful, I seriously want to cry. I could dissect each print for hours, but I’ll spare you from such a verbose blog post…if you do want to discuss these killer prints, hit me up on Twitter! I will say my favorite part is that the Return of the Jedi Variant print actually reads Revenge of the Jedi (the film's original title). I am also really glad to see Stout included all of my favorite characters. This is definitely a must have for any Star Wars and/or screen print fan.
“Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” by Tyler Stout are hand numbered 24“x36” screen prints. Each Standard Edition Star Wars print has a limited edition run size of 850 pieces and will retail for $50 each. The Gold Variant Editions have a limited edition run size of 275 and will retail for $100 each. The Original Star Wars Trilogy Set by Tyler Stout can be purchased directly from Mondo at a random time on Friday, December 31st, here. Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series #19 - King’s Lead Hat by Rob Jones
The second to last print in the Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series was released earlier this week while The Blot was out of town on my honeymoon, and after 10 wonderful days in Hawaii, I’m back! It’ll be impossible to catch up on all the cool stuff that’s come out while I’ve been gone, but I couldn’t skip over “King’s Lead Hat” by Rob Jones.
Rob Jones’ inspiration for “King’s Lead Hat”:
“King’s Lead Hat” by Rob Jones is a hand numbered 27“x36” screen print with metallic inks. This Star Wars print has a limited edition run size of 255 pieces and will retail for $50 each. “King’s Lead Hat”can could have been purchased directly from Mondo at a random time on Tuesday, December 28th, but it sold out instantly.
Rob Jones’ inspiration for “King’s Lead Hat”:
“There’s a scene in Star Wars where Grand Moff Tarkin strides into his council room on the Death Star announcing the dissolution of the Imperial Senate. His officers express concern over the Emperor’s ability to maintain control of star systems without this governing body. To this Tarkin retorts, ‘Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.’
This exchange made me consider the motivation behind the Emperor’s construction of Darth Vader. I’m not referring to just the cybernetic bits maintaining Vader’s body but also the active manipulation of his mind to bring him to the dark side. The Emperor created in Vader a weapon no different from the Death Star in its ultimate purpose, a means of generating fear amongst the vast populace he ruled. An administrative tool that became the executor of the Emperor’s cruel commands. With that in mind, I decided to depict Vader as a facility harnessing and directing his immense natural power towards malicious ends.”

Custom Lakers Rose Vampire by D-Lux
Check out this beautiful new custom Rose Vampire by D-Lux I got in the mail right before I left for our honeymoon. It’s actually the first commission I’ve ever purchased where I requested a certain color combination and it turned out amazing! As a diehard Lakers fan I’ve been waiting for purple and gold Rose Vampire colorway to be released by Super7, but after a year and a half wait I finally gave up and just had my own made.
D-Lux did a killer job with this purple and gold Rose Vampire and the picture above truly doesn’t do it justice. The sparkly color change paint really makes the figure pop! If you’re interested in getting a Rose Vampire customized (or really any other vinyl figure/kaiju), head over to D-Lux’ online store and place an order.

Spider-Man GID 10 Inch Mad'l by MAD
While The Blot’s off on my honeymoon, I thought I’d post a picture of a toy I’ve never blogged about before. About a year ago I saw a fellow collector selling this 10” Mad’l and knew right away I needed to add it to my collection. Besides collecting Mad’ls in general, I liked it because it combined two of my passion: designer vinyl figures and comic books. It’s not a true custom figure, but MAD always does sick work with a sharpie on a blank Mad’l, and I hope you agree!
This Spider-Man 10” Glow in the Dark Blue Mad’l was doodled on by MAD at San Diego Comic-Con 2008 and is now proudly displayed in my collection. I’m hoping to get a matching 10” GID Green Mad’l doodled by MAD one of these days…what super hero would you request?

Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition Hardcover Two Volume Slipcase Set
Last week Fantagraphics released an incredibly comprehensive Usagi Yojimbo collection to celebrate the long eared ronin’s 25th Anniversary, and The Blot can’t wait to get his hands on a copy! As many of you know, Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo was originally published by Fantagraphics Books (for its first ten years to be exact). So in honor of the 25th Anniversary of Stan Sakai’s most popular character, Fantagraphics is releasing a deluxe slipcase set collecting the first seven Usagi books.
With over 1,000 pages of story, this is THE complete, definitive, early Usagi. This Special Edition Set will also be brimming with extra material, including a complete full-color gallery of more than 50 Usagi covers from that time period; preparatory sketches, including Sakai’s original first draft of the “Samurai” story; two “non-canon” Usagi stories by Sakai co-starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (with whom Usagi also shared screen time in the TMNT TV series); the rare behind-the-scenes "How I Draw Usagi Yojimbo" strip; introductions by Stan Sakai and Stan Lee; and a feature-length, career-spanning interview with Sakai.
The Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition hardcover two-volume slipcased set is in stores now and has a suggested retail price of $100, but you can get it from Amazon here for just $63!

Thor Movie Screen Print by Olly Moss
Olly Moss was commissioned by Craig Kyle and Kevin Feige at Marvel Pictures to create a special print for the cast and crew of the upcoming Thor live action movie. Olly even got to visit the set, read the script and check out all the story boards and concept art…what an incredible opportunity!
Rumor has it 100 prints were created and none will be available to the public. It was also confirmed by Olly on Twitter that there will not be a second colorway created to be sold to the public. If any of these ever do show up for sale, I assume they’ll end up fetching a pretty penny. At least we can all drool over a photo of this beautiful Thor screen print together!

Hermees Vinyl Figure by Gary Ham
Check out Hermees, the awesome new vinyl toy by Gary Ham. Hermees is a trickster and international traveler. He's developed quite the reputation and depending on where his journey's take him, he could bring luck, happiness, longevity, disease, or even…DEATH! Based on the 14” handmade wooden Hermees figures released earlier this year, this is second vinyl figure Gary has self-produced. Heremees looks great in vinyl, and The Blot can’t wait to check out this figure in person.
Hermees stands 8" tall with a wing span of 12” and has 8 points of articulation (head, snout, wings, hands and feet). This is quite an intricate figure for a self-produced toy! Hermees has a limited edition run size of 200 figures and retails for just $45. While this pink and brown bat is not scheduled to hit stores until early January, a few are currently available for purchase in Gary Ham’s online store.

Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs vs. Pop! Heroes DC Universe
Has it really been a year and a half since I did my last “vs.” post? Long time readers of The Blot Says… might remember when I wrote up a blog post entitled Mighty Muggs vs. Mez-Itz v s. Mallows comparing the newest super hero themed vinyl figures to hit the market. At the time, most people hadn't seen Mez-Itz or Mallows in person and I thought posting some pics comparing their size and quality to Mighty Muggs would be helpful to collectors interested in ordering some online. Since a lot of people still haven’t seen Funko's new Pop! Heroes vinyl figures in stores yet, I thought I’d do a mini figure “vs.” post comparing them to Hasbro’s Mini Mighty Muggs!
As you can tell in these photos, the Pop! Heroes are a good inch, if not more, taller than the Mini Mighty Muggs. The Pop! Heroes figures sculpts are also much more detailed than MMM, which is cool if you really like the characters Funko has made, but makes them not very good platform toys for customizing. On the other hand, Mini Mighty Muggs are everything you loved about Mighty Muggs but smaller. They have 5 points of articulation (versus Pop! Heroes 1 solitary neck joint) and also have a kung-fu grip left hand perfect for holding homemade weapons.
To me, Hasbro does a great job with both sizes of Mighty Muggs. The paint job on each figure is clean and the over-all quality control of these Mini Mighty Muggs is great. Funko however, still needs to refine their QC as the paint applications could be much crisper. As I mentioned previously, I am also not a big fan of how these Pop! Heroes figures’ heads are connected to their body. But they are definitely superior to the vinyl dreck DC Direct put out last year (Uni-Formz and Blammoids! specifically).
Ultimately, both lines of mini figures are a great size for display and have great price points for collectors on a budget! I will definitely be buying more Pop! Heroes DC Universe and Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs in the future.

The Blot's Super Powers Batmobile Groom's Cake
One of the hardest decisions The Blot had to make during the wedding planning process was deciding what my groom’s cake should be. After making a long list of ideas, I narrowed it down to three things, then two, but ultimately chose what you see below: a Batmobile cake!
Now this isn’t just any old Batmobile, it an exact replica of the Batmobile from Kenner’s Super Powers toy line (circa 1994), and it turned pretty amazing if I do say so myself. As a little kid I was already reading DC Comics religiously, so when Kenner started producing the Super Powers toy line in the mid 1980s I naturally became obsessed with them. Plastic toys with fabric capes and real punching action (by squeezing their legs together) were more than 5 year old Blot could have ever asked for.
I felt like this version of the Batmobile was a perfect representation of me, combining my two hobbies (comic books and toys) into the perfect edible treat. Not only did it look cool, but it also tasted delicious too. A big thanks goes out to Nadine Moon and the fine folks at Who Made the Cake! for all making us the perfect groom’s cake!

TRON: Legacy Final One Sheet Movie Poster
The Blot’s still holding out hope that I’ll have the chance to see TRON: Legacy tonight before the Mrs. and I head off to Hawaii on our honeymoon. If not, I’ll probably have to wait until 2011. Thankfully I can revel in the image above. Doesn’t it look crazy good?!?! All of the TRON: Legacy one sheet movie posters have looked stunning, much like I assume the film will look in Disney Digital 3D. But as the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score keeps dropping, I’m starting to worry the sequel might be as campy bad as the original. Hopefully Disney didn’t drop the ball a second time.
TRON: Legacy premieres today, Friday, December 17th, in theaters everywhere!

TRON: Legacy Movie Poster Triptych
TRON: Legacy is almost upon us! The most anticipated film of the winter 2010 movie season will premiere in just two days, and The Blot’s pretty pumped. Unfortunately, due to my impending honeymoon there’s a better than good chance I don’t actually see TRON 2 until 2011. So whatever you do, don’t spoil it for me!
To help you kill time until the film's premiere, here's a triptych of one sheet movie posters featuring the film's cast: Jeff Bridges as the evil Clu; Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde as Quorra; and Jeff Bridges again, this time as Kevin Flynn.
TRON: Legacy premieres in theaters this Friday, December 16th.

TRON & TRON: Legacy GID Screen Prints by Eric Tan
We’re just 1 day away from the premiere of Disney’s TRON: Legacy in theaters, and to commemorate this hotly anticipated film Mondo will be releasing two beautiful glow in the dark screen prints by artist Eric Tan! Each print in this limited edition series focuses on one of the TRON films, TRON and TRON: Legacy.
Eric Tan spoke with the Los Angeles Times about these prints: “When creating posters for each of the Tron films, what immediately came to mind were the parallels between the two worlds and how it had progressed over the years. Since similar elements such as disks, light cycles, and recognizers exist in both, I thought showing the contrast between new and old was a visually interesting angle to play up"
"Linking the two main characters was something I thought would add to the storytelling and the father/son dynamic between Kevin and Sam Flynn. To me, those films are amazing examples of visual candy, and I hope I was able to capture that in my posters.” (link)
TRON and TRON: Legacy by Eric Tan are 16”x24” hand numbered screen prints with glow in the dark inks. Each print has a limited edition run size of 240 prints and will retail for $40 each. Both prints go on sale today, December 16th, at a random time at the Mondo Tees online store. Variants of both prints will go on sale at SideshowCollectibles.com, possibly even today!

Threadless Star Wars T-Shirt “Bad, Bad Walker”
Bad, Bad Walker by Rodrigo Leonardo Batista Ferreira
I know what you’re thinking, another Star Wars inspired t-shirt from Threadless!?! But “Bad, Bad Walker,” featuring an AT-AT drinking out of the toilet like a dog, is all kinds of win! The only downside to this release is it’s an all grey/silver design printed on a silver shirt. Threadless really should have put this one on a different colored shirt so the design could stand out more.
The Star Wars themed t-shirt “Bad, Bad Walker” comes printed on a silver t-shirt and is currently on sale at Threadless.com for $12 (it’s normally $18). The shirt comes in both guys and girls styles, sizes S-2XL.
The Hundreds x Garfield Vinyl Figure
This figure is just making way too much noise in the designer vinyl figure community to ignore. When I first saw pics of The Hundreds x Garfield vinyl figure last week at the Collection’s release party, I honestly thought they were 1 offs. They weren’t for sale at The Hundreds x Garfield pop-up store, so I assumed wrongly they were just old Garfield toys dressed in custom Black Adam t-shirts. Boy was I wrong, instead they are the final piece of The Hundreds x Garfield puzzle…
The Hundreds x Garfield vinyl toy is 6″x7″ and featuring 5 points of articulation. Each figure comes dressed in a Black Adam t-shirt and includes a to-scale miniature version of the The Hundreds x Garfield skateboard. The Orange The Hundreds x Garfield vinyl figure has a limited edition run size of 400 pieces, while the Black version has a much smaller run size of just 100 figures.
Both versions of The Hundreds x Garfield vinyl figure will be available for Pre-Sale this Monday, December 20th, at The Hundreds online store and The Loyal Subjects online store. The price of these figures is currently unknown, but they will begin to ship in January 2011.

Barneyism of the Week - One To Grow On
Hi there.
We’ve had a lot of fun tonight, but on a more serious note
this is the time of year when we remember the importance of giving.
And there’s no greater gift than the gift of booty.
So, this holiday season why not bang someone in need?
I’m Barney Stinson, and that’s one to grow on.
